Fred Butler was the first textile cleaning company to receive the "Nordic Swan", one of the most important European environmental quality marks. The prestigious Scandinavian environmental certificate can be compared to the German "Blue Angel" and is awarded to products and services which show exemplary eco-friendliness and consumer protection. The jury was so convinced by the Fred Butler cleaning method that a catalogue of criteria for evaluating CO₂ cleaning processes was developed specifically for its evaluation. The award was presented to Fred Butler for its minimisation of – completely biodegradable – washing agents.

Likewise, Fred Butler received the German "Blue Angel" award for its consistent and permanent use of solvent-free cleaning processes. The "Blue Angel" is a quality mark indicating environmental protection and has been awarded since 1977 by a jury of experts together with representatives from RAL (German Institute for Quality Assurance and Certification), the Federal Environmental Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
